There are three churches of the Ref tradition presently in this country. They find their origin in the work of American missionaries sent by the Presbyterian Church. Until the Second World War they were linked with the mission work in Pakistan. They differentiate by language and culture and are today regrouped together under the overall umbrella of the Evangelical Church of Iran. Since the “Islamic Revolution” of 1979 their situation has become more tense. They are members of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) and of the Fellowship of Middle East Evangelical Churches (FMEEC).
