Sweden - (Europe) Information about Sweden
Unsuccessful attempts to evangelize the country were made in 829 and 853 by Saint Ansgar, bishop of Hamburg. In 1020 the Christian King of England and Denmark sent Sigfrid of York to christianize Sweden. Around 1130 Cistercian monks founded several monasteries in the country. On June 6, 1556, the National Church (Luth) was established; Sweden is a constitutional monarchy in which the king must be Luth. There are also Dutch and Korean Ref congregations. Churches
