Since the late 1970s several Ref groups have been active in Uganda. In 1979 the Presbyterian Church of Uganda was founded. In 1986 a pastor of this church started the Evangelical Free Church. An unfortunate controversy within the Presbyterian Church of Uganda over church discipline led in 1989 to a split which resulted in the formation of the Reformed Presbyterian Church. In the ’80s Korean missionaries from the Presbyterian Church (HapDong, cf. Korea) arrived in Uganda and began to work with both churches. Two Bible schools have been opened (All Nations Bible College and Ref Presb Bible College). In 1992, close to the Kenyan border, the Christian Reformed Church came into existence. Other churches were founded by missionary initiatives from outside. Since 1991 two “All Presb Conferences” have been held. So far they have not led to the formation of a national church.
